Heating and Air Facts
How often should I have
my system inspected for problems?
Generally it is a good idea to have your system inspected twice
a year.
How often do I need to replace my air filters?
Check air filters monthly and replace if necessary. Some filters
need changing or cleaning every 2-4 weeks and some may go longer.
It all depends on the type of filter, the traffic in the space and
how much the fan on the furnace is on.

Do I need to refill my air conditioner every year?
No. In fact, you should not have to refill it unless the refrigerant
is leaking out.
What is the difference between 80% and 90% efficiency?
On an 80% efficient furnace, if you burn 100,000 BTUs, 80,000 should
go in your home and 20,000 will go outside. With the 90% efficient
furnace, if you burn 100,000 BTUs, 90,000 BTUs stay inside and only
10,000 BTUs go outside.
This is directly related to money: spend $100 on an
80% efficient furnace and $20 is gone; spend $100 on a 90% efficient
furnace and only $10 is gone.
Also, an older "80% efficient" furnace
may not be 80% efficient anymore. Can you smell carbon monoxide?
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas that
is produced by the incomplete combustion of fuels such as wood, natural
gas, gasoline, diesel, kerosene, coal and charcoal. It is caused by
lack of oxygen or a disruption in the burning process. Anything that
uses the above fuels has the potential to create CO.
